01Will this make my hair grow back?
No, and we're not going to tell you otherwise. This is a cleansing bar. No shampoo grows hair — in the US the only ingredient with approval for regrowth is minoxidil, and that isn't what this is.
What it does do is clear the buildup that sits at your roots and holds hair flat against your scalp. Clean that off and the same hair lifts, which reads as noticeably fuller in a mirror and in photos. That's a real, visible effect — it just isn't new hair.
If you're dealing with sudden shedding, patchy loss, or a scalp that's itchy and inflamed, those have causes a wash can't reach. A doctor or dermatologist is the right call, and we'd rather say that than sell you a bar for it.
02Why does my hair feel weird for the first few washes?
Because there's residue coming off. If you've been using silicone shampoo and conditioner, there's a film on your hair that took months to build and takes a few washes to clear.
During that window hair can feel squeaky, or waxy, or oddly heavy — sometimes all three in different sections. It's the most common reason people give up on a bar in week one.
Soak your hair properly before you start — more than feels necessary
Massage the scalp 30–60 seconds with your fingertips, not your nails
Rinse until the water runs clear, then rinse a bit longer
Condition the ends only, never the roots
By wash three it settles. That's why the guarantee is thirty days rather than seven.
03Do I still need conditioner?
Depends on your hair. The polygonum root conditions as it cleans, so the bar doesn't strip the way a clarifying shampoo does.
Fine or oily hair — most people drop conditioner entirely
Thick, curly, dry or colour-treated — keep it, on the ends only
Never at the roots — that's the buildup you're trying to clear
04How long does one bar last?
Roughly [N] washes — but how you store it matters more than how often you use it.
Keep it out of the direct spray and off the shower floor
Let it dry between washes on a draining dish or slatted rack
A bar sitting in water goes soft and disappears in half the time
Looked after, one bar genuinely outlasts two bottles of shampoo — which is most of why the four-bar price works out as well as it does.
05Is it safe for colour-treated hair?
Yes, with one honest caveat: any wash that clarifies will fade colour a little faster than a sulphate-free colour-safe shampoo. That's true of this bar and of every clarifying product.
If you've just had an expensive colour done, wait a few days before the first wash, and expect to top up slightly sooner than you would otherwise. Plenty of people accept that trade for the root lift — but you should know about it before you buy, not after.
06Is it safe for a sensitive scalp?
It's a gentle cleansing bar, but it is fragranced, and fragrance is a common irritant.
Patch test behind the ear for 24 hours before the first full wash
Read the ingredient list if you have a known allergy; it's in full on this page
Avoid broken or actively irritated scalp skin
Keep out of the eyes; rinse thoroughly with water if it gets in
Stop using it if you get redness, stinging or itching, and email us
This is a cosmetic cleansing product, not a treatment for dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or any other scalp condition. If you're managing one of those, check with a dermatologist before adding a fragranced wash.
On polygonum multiflorum: you may read about liver effects linked to this plant. Those reports involve oral supplements taken over time, not a wash-off topical product. Don't eat soap — but there's no comparable concern about washing your hair with it.
07What if it doesn't work for me?
Then you don't pay for it. Thirty days from delivery — long enough to get through the transition washes and judge it properly.
